Ten years of teaching experience, a passion for learning and a balance between focus and fun are qualities CHAI Environmental Science and biology teacher Lena Okenfus brings into her classroom.
In her free time, Okenfus spends time with her family and her six new chickens, enjoying taking care of them in the mornings.
She aims to create a classroom environment that helps students gain transferable skills while enjoying learning. Okenfus views the personal connections that come from teaching as the most rewarding part of being a teacher.
“[I enjoy] making connections with the students, establishing conversations that will take us to talk about the world and their future,” Okenfus said. “I want to get more involved [in the community] and I’m trying to know everything before I jump in.”
