What started as a casual summer camp with friends turned into the beginning of a life-changing journey for young athlete Kapri Garnett ‘26. Now a senior at Campbell Hall and committed to playing Division 1 volleyball at the University of Michigan. What began as a casual interest has developed into a significant athletic career defined by dedication and achievement.
Garnett’s journey began with a simple decision to step out of her comfort zone. Having recently stepped away from horseback riding, a passion she had pursued for years, she was looking for a new outlet to stay active and meet new people. But once Garnett found her new love for volleyball, she soon recognized how difficult it was to balance school, sports, and her personal life.
“It’s a lot to juggle, but I focus on the end goal,” Garnett said. “On tough days, I lean on my family and friends—they remind me why I’m doing this and help me push through.”
This dedication and focus paid off when Garnett received her college offers, ultimately leading her to commit to playing Division 1 volleyball at the University of Michigan. Like many high school students, Garentt initially felt overwhelmed by the recruitment process and was unsure which school she would end up attending.
“But when I visited Michigan, I just fell in love with everything—the community, the vibe, and how well it fit me personally,” Garnett said. “It felt right, and I knew it was the place for me.”
Looking back at her high school career, Garnett fondly remembers those moments that defined her journey as an athlete, from hard-fought victories on the court to friendships that have made her time memorable.
“Playing at homecoming was unforgettable,” Garnett said. “It was special to compete in front of my friends in such a fun, competitive atmosphere, definitely a memory that will stick with me.”
