If Kasiopia Watts, Middle School Principal and preacher of ‘radical love,’ could describe herself in a few words, they would be dynamic, sensitive, loving and fabulous.
Outside of campus, Watts has a deep-seated passion for community service. Her interest in helping others began when she studied abroad in South Africa while in college, a chapter she thinks back to often. Working in orphanages and experiencing a different world instilled in her a love for international service. While principal at her past school, KIPP Sol Academy, she had the opportunity to take students on a trip to Ghana, where they planted trees in small villages. Watts loves sharing her dedication for service with students, emphasizing the spirit and compassion she gains from it.
Going into her third year at Campbell Hall, Watts has brought her values into the middle school community. A plaque in her office, which reads “love is all you need,” guides her personal and academic philosophies. Watts believes that leading with dynamic and ‘radical’ love truly can conquer anything, and is especially important in educational settings. She recognizes that everyone is going through something, has insecurities and is figuring out their place in the world. Especially as students mature, Watts believes that it’s crucial to lead with a sense of love. She’s learned that just making a peer feel seen can make their day.
Watts views students as the heart of a school, and she is proud to see them spreading love and positivity as she walks around campus. She believes that if we could all spend a little more time loving one another, it would go far.
