Early on, William L. ‘25 and Wyatt K. ‘26 both had a deep love for film. Throughout their careers at Campbell Hall, they would both pursue this insatiable passion, taking it as far as they could. Until eventually, they would create Double Dub Productions, their own freelance production company, expanding upon their love for stage tech and film, creating a real business. This company would grow to become something much bigger than the two could have expected, a true manifestation of their passions.
Double Dub Productions is an event production company, providing lighting, audio, and other staging equipment for all different types of events like parties, live performances, advertisements, weddings, bar mitzvahs and much more. Their goal as a company is to be able to say yes to anything their clients ask, no matter how daunting the task.
“The initial challenge was getting our name out there,” William said. “ That was really hard to do…people were hiring us because of our prices and availability…Wyatt and I really just…want to do great work and we’re young so we’ll do it cheaper than the other guy than all the other guys.”
As a new startup in the large industry of film and lighting, it was hard for such a small business to establish itself. William found that by charging as little as $100 per event, he could attract a larger consumer base, getting an edge over the competition. William believes that Double Dub could only gain footing by being open to all opportunities presented to their business.
In their efforts to build Double Dub, both Wyatt and William strategized, putting together each of their strengths to build its structure. William brought social and communication skills, while Wyatt brought experience working with lighting. Together, they consider themselves to be immensely successful for the combination of these unique talents.
“Wyatt has the intellect and talent of a professional lighting designer, and I have the ability to bring people together and make good first impressions,” William said. “So together we were a great team. Wyatt is honestly so great at what he does. I have the equipment and the organizational abilities to be able to run this company with him. And so we’re able to use both of our most critical skills in a way that’s benefited us and a lot of our friends.”
As time passes, Wyatt will have to start planning for the future of his and William’s company. Though William will be leaving for Tulane University soon, he hopes to grow the company, possibly growing its reach, following him to university. With Wyatt in California, and William off to Louisiana, both are preparing for this change, working hard to ensure a safe future of their company.
“Well William is a senior, so he’s going off to college,” Wyatt said. “I’m [going to] keep trying to run the company. [At first] we didn’t know how much people actually liked and were starting to use our company, so now we’re just gonna keep doing it and keep growing.”
William believes Double Dub has a promising future. Over the years, he feels that the industry relationships he has developed, the experience he has gained and the reputation they have formed will continue to help Double Dub Productions grow as the years go on.
“I’m a senior and I plan to move very far away from college just to have an adventure,” William said. “I want to keep Double Dub going because we’ve garnered a lot of clients and support, which we were incredibly grateful for. I don’t [want to] let them down. We’ve gotten some really talented people into our team…So [I look forward to seeing] my company grow while away. I think Double Dub has a promising future. You know, Wyatt is going to be the ultimate CEO.”
