The Secondary Winter Music Series is a culmination of multiple performances by middle and high school jazz ensembles. Everyone is welcome, and no tickets are required. On Dec. 4, 2025, the first performance, Evening of Jazz, was held.
Archie Wegner ‘26 is a part of the Jazz Combo class and performed in the Evening of Jazz. He has been working on multiple pieces: one song was from Robert Glasgow, and another was arranged by a different student in his class. He enjoyed working on this jazz piece all year. His class experimented with a modal structure during the performance which was a highlight for Wegner.
“A modal structure [is] kind of new and we haven’t really been doing that too much in the past,” Wegner said. “That’s [when] every chord has its own chord tones, and so it’s just utilizing like the pieces that build up that specific chord instead of utilizing the scale that it is a part of.”
