New high school physics teacher David Romero, brings a passion for curiosity and exploration of the world around us.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Caltech, Romero began teaching in 2010. He served as a Math Support Team Member in the AmeriCorps ABLE program at Western New York Maritime Charter High School, working full time alongside the school’s staff.
“I had a great experience serving with AmeriCorps [in the ABLE program],” Romero said. “I was out in 10th Street Elementary, just outside of downtown and seeing those kids light up when an adult took interest in their reading [really inspired me].”
Romero’s experience with AmeriCorps shaped how he approaches the Campbell Hall classroom today, making his teaching-style student-centered, using group work to spark curiosity among students.
“I think it’s really about making connections with other human beings,” Romero said. “They see the world in a different way; they grow, learn, and take the information I give them, then make it their own.”
