Rhythm, sound, and language are the foundational parts of music and writing. New English teacher, Ashlyn Collins, brings her passion for English literature and her background as a musician together. With her creative background and enthusiasm, Collins is eager to make her mark on the English curriculum at Campbell Hall.
Collins teaches Campbell Hall Advanced Inquiry (CHAI) Literature and Composition as well as English nine. With a background as a writer and editor, she brings both professional experience and a passion for the arts into her classroom.
She’s most excited to connect with her students this year. She is eager to learn about their interests, hear their perspective, and create a classroom where they feel comfortable expressing themselves while exploring literature in meaningful ways.
Her path to teaching wasn’t traditional. She discovered her passion unexpectedly and soon realized how much she enjoyed connecting with students and guiding them through literature in creative, thoughtful ways.
“I basically stumbled into [teaching] by pure luck,” Collins said. “I really loved working with young people and watching them grow and develop. I hope [my students see] my teaching style as warm and hopefully fun. I sing a lot outside of school, and I believe that every genre [of music] has something great to add. I am also really involved in the arts in Los Angeles, so I go to a lot of art shows and openings.”
